While the lineup loses the V6 engine standard for its base model, you won't lack the power you need. The standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder makes 310 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, pairing with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Additional engine options include two V8 powertrains and an efficient turbo-diesel for higher power output. The three available engines pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission for a smooth shifting experience. When properly equipped with the Max Trailering package, the GMC Sierra 1500 can tow up to 13,200 pounds and support a payload of 2,240 pounds. The diesel engine enjoys a fuel economy of 23/30 mpg city/highway. Engines and their corresponding performance ratings include:
